Assistant to the Prime Minister in Human Rights and Gender Equality Affairs, Sophie Japaridze conducted a meeting with the members of the Coordinating Council for the Implementation of the 2016-2017 National Action Plan. The UN Women provided technical support of the abovementioned meeting.
The Coordinating Council is entrusted with the implementation of the UN General Assembly Resolutions N1325, N1820, N1888, N1889 and N1960 on "Women, Peace and Security".
Since January 2015 Sophie Japaridze chairs the coordinating group. The group convenes every three months and presents a report on activities undertaken within the frames of the national action plan. Governmental and non-governmental sectors are represented in the coordinating team.
The national action plan is one of the crucial tools used to translate the obligations undertaken in the area of gender equality and women empowerment into the tangible results.
