Today the meeting of interagency council implementing the measures for elimination of domestic violence was held in the Government administration. The members of the council discussed the questions defined by the agenda and organization issues.

At the meeting the importance of establishing pilot departments in the ministry of internal affair and prosecutor's office (Tbilisi) was emphasized that will work only on gender-based and domestic violence cases. The members of the council also discussed simplifying the procedure of issuance of the order, development of domestic violence risk assessment methodology, adding and re-training of social workers, in case of placing in the shelter suspension (instead of termination) of social assistance to victims. 

As it was mentioned at the meeting fight against domestic violence is one of the priorities to the Georgian Government and it is necessary to eliminate the gathered problems in a timely manner.
"A very interesting meeting was held. It should be noted that the meeting of interagency council implementing the measures for elimination of domestic violence was last held in June, 2013 and this year the meeting was held for the first time with a new membership. So, a number of problems are gathered that need to be resolved immediately, including staffing the commission that gives the status of victim," - the assistant to the Prime Minister for human rights and gender equality, chief of the council Sopio Japaridze stated.
